Thomas Hardy's books are amazing, and this one is no different. The character's the plot, and the background was depicted with a keen sense of who Hardy's intended audience was. I have done a little research on the author, and I was surprised to discover that some people took offence at his stories, and that some considered them scandalous. But what I see is an honest and an empathetic understanding of human nature.

 

Far from the Madding Crowd shows, much like it did with Tess, the cruelty of mankind and the injustice. This novel really broke my heart, but I could not put it down. It was in one word - Brilliant!! 

 

I picked up my copy from Waterstones.

    I really enjoy Thomas Hardy's books as well. Although not so much his poetry, it is so depressing.
