I can't understand what all the fuss is about. And Mr Darcy - why would anyone consider him a dashing hero. He is obnoxious, and although he does help Elizabeth at the end of the book, I cannot understand why all his arrogant behaviour before is simply swept under the carpet.

 

I found this novel really dull, and it dragged on and one, and then near the end, there is a letter, which basically sums up the entire story. 

 

I don't think I will be reading any more books by Jane Austen.

 

I regreatfully wasted my money on this book at Waterstones.

Bruno is this little nine year old who is completely innocent of the world that he lives in. He is completley unaware of what is happening to the Jews and he has no idea about The Finial Solution. His most pressing concern is that he has to move house. The move means he has no one to play with and that is when he meets Shmuel - the boy in the stripped pyjamas.

 

This book 😭😭😭 the ending 😭😭😭 It emotionally exausted me. I am sure this book is going to haunt me for the rest of my life, what happens, oh my goodness. I can't even....

Hands-up, I watched the movie first because it has Robert Pattison in, and I am going through a bit of a Robert Pattison phase. But putting that aside...
The movie was breathtakingly beautiful. Jacob Jankowski ran away to the circus when his whole life fell apart, and then in his senior years, he is once again drawn to the circus. 

The novel begins in modern times, and Jacob finds himself stranded at the circus. The circus owner Charlie O'Brien takes him to his office while he tries to find out what nursing home Jacob had come from so they can come and pick him up. But when Jacob begins to talk about his life, Charlie forgets all about trying to find out where Jacob has come from and listens, enthralled. 

Jacob's story starts in 1931, which was the year his life crumbled around him, and he found himself homeless. He stumbles upon the circus, and although he never got to finish his final exams, he is, in all but name, a veterinarian. And thus, he is taken on. But it soon becomes apparent to Jacob that it is not only the animals that need protecting from August, the circus ringmaster. August's wife, Marlena Rosenbluth, needs his protection as well.

I loved this film so much. At times it did make for some difficult reading, especially when August, who is controlled by his temper, loses control. But despite the appaling treatment, the beautiful elephant "Rosie", who will not obey any of the commands and is therefore beaten with a bullhook by August, still looks to Jacob for comfort. This is a movie that moved me to tears, but it is also one that I would willingly watch over and over again.

Now for the book.

I did not think that the book would be able to live up to the film, but it really did. Sara Gruen has captured not only the era but the people. It is a really interesting and entertaining read. And it was one that I really enjoyed. But, I think, I would prefer to watch the movie then read the book again.

Wonder - a book that all parents should read to their children.

 

 

 

Wonder

Although a children's book, I had heard a lot about Wonder and I really wanted to read it. This story is about a little boy with a facial abnormality who, having previously been homeschooled, has to go to school. I think this book is one that all parents should read to their children, and hopefully, they would then understand what it is like to be different and maybe, just maybe, feel a little more compassion.

 

This story is very moving, but I did have an issue with it. Halfway through the book there is a chapter with zero punctuation - not a full stop or capital letter insight. 

 

I thought it was really odd, and I did not see the purpose of it - was it a mistake and a whole chapter was missed out during the editing process, But then who writes with no punctuation. Was it intentional? If so, I just don't get it, and it really pulled me out of the story.

Veronica Roth, how can you be so cruel? 

 

I don't think I have ever cried so much at the ending of a book as I did with this one. 😭😭😭

 

Once again, Tris is having to deal with things no one should have to deal with, and she does so with such bravery and courage, or perhaps it would be better to say that she had to pretend to be brave in order for her friends to survive. 

 

This series has been brilliant from beginning to end, and I cannot wait to read more books by this author - hopefully, this time, with a more happier ending.

Honestly, if you are reading this review and not reading the series, what the hell is wrong with you?

 
We are back with Tris and Four (heart-beats a little faster at the mention of his name) as they struggle to come to terms with what happened in book 1. Unsurprisingly, Tris suffers survival guilt, but it somehow makes her more determined than ever before. And as for Four, there are some shocking truths which he will find complicated to process.

I love the world that Veronica Roth has created. This series, and this novel, is so well written and so captivating that I found that I lost all track of time. I cannot wait to get my hands on Book 3.
